This cast iron loaf pan is perfect for those who love sandwich loaf bread and the benefits of cast iron. Here's a quick guide on how you can use the cast iron loaf pan to achieve optimal baking results:

  • For best results, a non-stick surface and rust protection, the loaf pan must always be completely seasoned with oil – see care instructions below.
  • Before pouring in the dough, the loaf pan must be well greased. Butter provides the best non-stick effect – the finished bread slips out of the pan effortlessly. Alternatively, you can also use a vegetable oil. Olive oil, however, doesn't work very well as it combines with the dough.
  • If the pan is well seasoned, the dough can proof in the pan for a few hours without rust forming. If this proofing takes place in the refrigerator, approach with care, as the environment in the refrigerator can be too humid for cast iron.
  • Preheat the oven as usual and place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake as usual. Thanks to the thick material of the cast iron, the bread will bake and brown evenly.

Details

Note: Lodge cast iron cookware is pre-seasoned with oil from the factory and is ready to use immediately. Since their pots and pans are hung for this process, there may be a small amount brown oil residue on the handle. This is not rust and is completely harmless. The oil at this point simply has not been completely carbonized. The spot can be easily scraped off and can be retreated with a dab of oil, but it will also disappear on its own with use in the oven.

Care instructions

This bread pan is pre-seasoned with vegetable oil from the factory and is ready to use immediately. The seasoned coating protects the cast iron from rust and creates a natural non-stick surface.

  • If you fry or cook with oil regularly, the natural coating will renew itself automatically.
  • Do not store acidic foods in the pot for an extended period.
  • After use, rinse with hot water and a brush and dry immediately.
  • Use very little or no dish soap as this can dissolve the natural coating.
  • Do not put in the dishwasher or soak in water: risk of rust!

If necessary, your bread pan can be re-seasoned:

Step 1: Thoroughly scrub the cast iron pan or pot with hot water, dish soap, and a brush. Then dry completely.

Step 2: Apply a thin layer of vegetable oil to the entire pan or pot with a kitchen towel (also on the outside if the coating is no longer present)

Step 3: Bake in the oven at 250°C for about 1 hour with the opening facing down on a rack. You can place a baking sheet on the shelf below to catch any dripping oil.
